Raffles of featured artists’ works announced for St. Peter’s Art Show July 3

June 10, 2021

The St. Peter’s Art Show Committee announced this year’s generous donors to the show’s featured artists raffle: jewelry designer and artist Anna Biggs, painter Kathy Buschi and historic redware potter Selinda Kennedy.

Each artist has contributed a unique piece for the show, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 3, on St. Peter’s Square at Second and Market streets, Lewes, and in the nearby M&T Bank parking lot.

The three featured artists will be among more than 100 artists and artisans exhibiting at the 55th Annual Art Show sponsored by St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Admission is free, and the event will be held rain or shine.

Proceeds from the art show benefit organizations helping those in need in the Cape Henlopen School District.

A jewelry designer and artist from Greenville, Anna Biggs is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology. She lived for two years in Rome and traveled extensively. She is known for her exquisite jewelry, and enjoys painting in watercolor and oil.

Biggs combines her dreams with her love of architecture and the natural world to create both her paintings and her jewelry. Her mediums include sculpted jewelry using the lost wax process in silver and gold egg tempera, and plein air painting in oil and watercolors. She hand-carves all the gold and silver elements in her unique jewelry. Each sculpture is then cast in silver, gold or platinum. After polishing the precious metals, all stones and gems are added to make the finished piece sculpture to wear. Biggs classifies her designs as classic with a twist.

For the art show, Biggs donated a handmade, sterling silver Florence link bracelet with freshwater pearls and beads. The Florence link is one of Biggs’ quintessential pieces. For more information, go to annabiggsdesigns.com

A self-taught folk artist who lives in Milton, Kathy Buschi has been exhibiting at St. Peter’s Art Show since 2001. In 1979, her husband Brendan gave her a set of oil paints as a Christmas present, and she began painting. Her work is well known in Delaware and includes scenes of Milton, Lewes, Rehoboth and Dover.

Buschi’s donation to the raffle is a 19.5-by-16-inch framed, original acrylic painting, ”Little League Practice.” It is an example of her love of Delaware scenes. A signature detail in Buschi’s paintings is a little red-haired girl, her daughter Jessica, with the two yellow Labrador retrievers she grew up with, Phoebe and Samantha.

Buschi has won several art awards. She says her greatest reward comes when people tell her that her paintings make them feel happy. To learn more, go to buschiart.com.

Selinda Kennedy is a historic redware potter. In 1986-88 she received hands-on instruction in the method of Opel sectal tile-making from an instructor at the Henry Mercer tile factory in Doylestown, N.J. She then opened her studio and began her career in slab construction redware, incorporating historic folk art design from museums and private collections. Since 1988, her work has been shown and sold nationally, through galleries, juried exhibitions and shows.

For the art show raffle, Kennedy donated a 17-inch 18th century Fraktur design plate titled “Mermaid.” To view her work, go to Facebook and search Kennedy Redware.

Raffle tickets are $2 each or 12 for $20 and can be purchased on the parish lawn the day of the art show. There will be separate drawings for each item at 2:30 p.m., and ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

A special display in the window of Citizens Bank on Second Street in Lewes features photos and information about the raffle items.

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church is paying tribute to artist William Dec, who died in 2020 at the age of 95, by dedicating the 55th Annual Art Show in his memory. He and his wife Cindy, who died in 2019, were beloved members of St. Peter’s. The parish is grateful for the art pieces that the Dec family donated to the art show’s silent auction. The proceeds from the sales of these art pieces will benefit the church’s Open Door Project capital campaign.

St. Peter’s will follow current, local and CDC COVID-19 guidelines when hosting this event.

Free parking will be available at Cape Henlopen High School on Kings Highway in Lewes, with shuttle service from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. provided courtesy of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty and Lewes Senior Activity Center.
