RBFS to present documentary on Rose Marie opening Jan. 12

January 10, 2018

Starting Friday, Jan. 12, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society's Cinema Art Theater will present “Wait for Your Laugh,” a documentary about actress, singer and entertainer Rose Marie, who was a fixture on American stage and screen for 90 years.

“Wait for Your Laugh” tells the story of what was the longest active career in entertainment. Much more than just Sally Rogers on “The Dick Van Dyke Show” and the top center square on “Hollywood Squares,” Rose Marie worked in every facet of showbiz. She was "the darling of the airwaves" at the age of 4 and went on to work in vaudeville, Vegas, Broadway, movies, television, theater, concert halls and nightclubs.

She called Al Capone “Uncle Al”; she opened the Flamingo in Las Vegas for Bugsy Siegel, and she had her career protected and nurtured by "the boys." Her friends included the best show business had to offer, with Peter Marshall, Carl Reiner, Dick Van Dyke, and Tim Conway among them. “Wait for Your Laugh” is a love letter to a true trailblazer of American entertainment.

Screening times are 1 and 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12; 7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 13; 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14; 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 15; 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17; and 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 18. Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for nonmembers. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive behind the Lewes Wawa.

The mission of the RBFS is promoting cinematic arts, and providing education and cultural enrichment for the community. The society sponsors ongoing screenings, special events, and the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival (Nov. 1-11, 2018). The society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
