Register by Sept. 20 for bus trip to Rockwood estate in Wilmington
The First Town Club of Lewes is planning a special visit to Rockwood Estate in Wilmington Tuesday, Oct. 2.
The Rockwood mansion was built by Quaker merchant banker John Shipley between 1851 and 1854. Its Gothic Revival architecture and enchanting landscape were designed to reflect the beauty of an English country estate.
The museum reflects the way Shipley’s descendants lived during the turn of the 20th century. Docents dressed in Victorian costumes guide the tour.
A bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. from the Lowe’s parking lot off Route 1 at Five Points and return at approximately 5 p.m. The cost of the bus and admission to the mansion is $40 per person, and registration is required by Thursday, Sept. 20.
Lunch will be at a local restaurant, and those checks are to be paid separately by attendees. On the way home, the group also will make a short stop at Willey Farms near Smyrna.
