Registration open for winter birding weekend Jan. 28-30

December 18, 2021

The Winter Delmarva Dogfish Birding Weekend will be held Friday to Sunday, Jan. 28 to 30.

This will be the event’s seventh year, with participants enjoying great looks at the waterfowl, seabirds, shorebirds, raptors – and seals – that are on full display in the mid-Atlantic during the winter months. During the 2021 event, 119 species were tallied including great cormorant, purple sandpiper, harlequin duck, American white pelican, 27 species of waterfowl, and harbor and gray seals.

Organizers are partnering again with Dogfish Inn. Located in historic downtown Lewes alongside the canal and a short walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, the Dogfish Inn is the perfect base camp for exploring all that coastal Delaware has to offer.

Field trips include forays into Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, Cape Henlopen State Park, the inlets at Indian River and Ocean City, Newport Farms, and the Scoters, Seals and Slightly Mightys boat tours in Lewes.
