After months of anticipation, the Duck Donuts in Rehoboth Beach is set to open at 7 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 12.

Owned by Julia and Charles “Buff” Vaughan, the store is located at 33 Wilmington Ave., in the shops attached to The Avenue Inn & Spa.

Duck Donuts was founded in 2006 by Russ DiGilio in Duck, N.C. By 2011, Duck Donuts had expanded to four Outer Banks locations. The first franchise opened in Williamsburg, Va., in 2013. There are now 98 locations, one international, and roughly 150 more under contract to open. This is the second Duck Donuts in Delaware and the first in the beach area.

The first customer in line Dec. 12 will receive a Duck Donuts gift basket, including an inflatable duck, an inflatable donut, a T-shirt, a mug, coupons, plastic duck toys and more.

In addition to donuts, the location will offer Duck Donuts’ signature coffee blends, espresso, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes, frozen beverages and milkshakes, select retail items, and ice cream from Hopkins Farm Creamery.

The 824-square-foot retail store will double in size to 1,551 square feet by this summer, in order to offer seating for customers.

Donuts will be made fresh to order 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., seven days a week during the winter months. For more information, specials and donut topping updates, visit the Duck Donuts Rehoboth Beach Facebook page or connect on the web at DuckDonuts.com.
