Rehoboth Assistant Building Inspector Matt Janis has received certification as a commercial building inspector and building plans examiner through the International Code Council. The ICC is a member-focused association with over 64,000 members. It is dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, building and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures.

According to a Jan. 30 press release from the city, with these certifications, Janis is responsible for performing inspections to structures to determine compliance with various building codes and standards adopted by the city, and with reviewing submitted plans. At this level of certification, Janis can inspect commercial structures of any size or occupancy. Janis achieved certifications in just one year, and is currently working toward a building official certification.

“Working toward and earning professional certification in one’s field of work shows the commitment of staff to ensure they are performing at the highest levels,” said City Manager Sharon Lynn.
