The Rehoboth Art League will kick off summer with its 53rd Annual Members’ Fine Craft Exhibition opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 12, inviting anyone interested to see the show and visit the historic campus at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres. The fine craft showcase continues through Sunday, July 12.

The show features works created by RAL member artists in a wide variety of media, including baskets, ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, wood and more on display in the Corkran and Tubbs galleries, with awards given for distinguished pieces.

Artists and the public are invited to hear from Deborah Appleby, this year’s exhibition judge, during a free gallery talk at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 13, in the Corkran Gallery.

A glassblower, designer and maker originally based in Lewes, Appleby founded The Studio on 24 in 1999 as a functional production blown-glass craft business and gallery. She specializes in traditional, functional production glassware, often made in series, along with unique commission work. She prioritizes structure, balance and enduring usability, drawing ocean-inspired colors from her coastal life near the ocean.

In the mid-2000s, her studio shifted focus from retail and local shows to private and commercial contracts, showcasing her transition from retail production to designer and maker. The work emphasized craftsmanship with visual impact, though always based in function, fitting protocol office needs for official diplomatic events and gifts. Her focus over the last years has been her private, large-scale commission work both in the U.S. and with her studio overseas.

The Ventures Gallery will continue to provide an extension of the Members’ Sales Gallery, showcasing an eclectic collection of fine art and craft by RAL member artists. Patrons can browse everything from oil paintings to tote bags, ceramics and fine art photography. Each purchase supports a practicing artist, as well as the mission of the Rehoboth Art League.

On view in the Peter Marsh Homestead through Sunday, June 28, is Between the Lines and Beyond the Frame: Works by Dolores Andrew. This exhibition reflects on Andrew's career as a designer whose talents span a variety of media in both fine art and the craft of needlepoint. For more than 30 years, Andrew worked as a summer instructor at the Rehoboth Art League. She chaired the popular outdoor show for 16 years, illustrated the cottage tour program for 20 years, and was also a member of the weekly sketch group.
