Rehoboth Concert Baby Band performs for Memorial Day

June 13, 2021

The Rehoboth Concert Baby Band, under the direction of Sharon Still, was able to brighten the weekend for an appreciative audience May 29 at First Presbyterian Church in Milford.

The band performed a Memorial Day concert to honor those have died in the performance of their military service to the country.

Patriotic numbers included a salute to all military branches in “Our Armed Forces,” and vocalist Gail Hecky encouraged the audience to join her in a unique rendition of “My Country Tis of Thee” in “Our America.” The concert would not have been complete without the march “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa with veteran band member Marcy Parykaz playing the the spirited piccolo part.

Other musical selections included the commanding “Siege,” which depicted a medieval battle, as well as unique orchestrations in “Exhale” and “Hymn to the Dawn.”

“The Mouse King” and “Russian Sailor’s Dance” showed off the band’s sense of adventure and fun. Contemporary tunes such as Elton John’s swing-style “I’m Still Standing” and the powerful yet eerie “Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Men Tell No Tales” served to round out the repertoire.

The Rehoboth Concert Baby Band members would like to thank the First Presbyterian Church in Milford for their hospitality and support which made this concert possible. The baby band is a group within the larger and more instrumentally diverse Rehoboth Concert Band that has been entertaining audiences of all ages in the Cape Region since 2013. The nonprofit band also provides for the growth and development of local instrumentalists.

With COVID-19 restrictions lifting, concert band members are looking forward to returning to a full and exciting schedule in the fall.
