Rehoboth deserves kudos for quick action

December 21, 2017

As the result of construction of the new 24-inch wastewater outfall line, a major water line serving Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and surrounding areas was damaged Dec. 19. The incident happened near the water tower located at the public works yard at the State Road curve going under the Route 1 canal bridge.

The work being done on the line was by a contractor working on the force main that will extend to the ocean outfall. The repair of the compromised pipe became the responsibility of the City of Rehoboth Beach.

With the intense work of Water Department Supervisor Howard Blizzard and his personnel, the broken pipe was accessed, repaired, and returned to service by mid-afternoon. With the supervision of DelDOT, the roadway and approaches reopened before 8 p.m.

The public should know that the Water Department is out there keeping the system on line with responsibility and action when necessary. Providing safe water is job No. 1.

Good job!
