Rehoboth Elementary students host market day

August 28, 2019

Near the end of the school year, Rehoboth Elementary third-graders in Kristine Wood’s class created and participated in a market day activity as part of their economics curriculum.

To create a society within the classroom, students created a government with laws, money and jobs.

Designated jobs ranged from mail person, recycler and police officer to money cutters and treasurers. As they encountered challenges along the way, students had to decide how to approach them, while staying focused on making their society wrok.

During market day, students staffed a variety of different market stands and sold different items including, popcorn, water ice, jewelry and lollipops.

Family members, other students and staff were invited. Attendees were given paper money to purchase items. The third-graders operating the stands were required to collect payment and provide the goods to the purchasers.
