Rehoboth Elementary students raise funds at Jump Rope For Heart

May 7, 2018

For the seventh year, Rehoboth Elementary School students participated in the national Jump Rope for Heart program.

Presented by the American Heart Association, the program encourages students to learn how to take proper care of their hearts while also providing an opportunity to raise money for the organization.

During the February program, students learned how to make healthy eating choices and exercise properly in order to maintain healthy hearts. They also learned how to check their pulse and heart rate, and also explored the anatomy of the heart.

“Each year, students work hard to raise money for this great cause,” said Rich Lantz, physical education teacher at Rehoboth Elementary. “This year was no different. Students raised more than $6,000 for the American Heart Association, and I couldn’t be more proud!”

Students celebrated the money they raised with special in-class physical activities related to jumping. These included basketball, using mini-trampolines, box jumps and jumping rope.

“We’re very proud of the time and energy our students put into this program,” said Lantz. “They worked hard in the classroom learning about the heart and outside of the classroom when it came to fundraising. We hope they had as much fun participating as we had watching them succeed.”
