December 19, 2020

A Rehoboth Beach man faces charges after police say he tried to steal a car Dec. 17 in Millsboro.

Delaware State Police were called at 5 p.m. to a home in the 25000 block of Banks Road for a report of an individual attempting to gain entry into a vehicle, and learned Sean R. Caldwell had gone onto the private property and tried to get in a vehicle, said Master Cpl. Heather Pepper of the Delaware State Police.

The vehicle was running and parked in the driveway, and the homeowner’s son was inside the locked vehicle, Pepper said. The son called a family member who was still inside the home. The family member came out and confronted Caldwell, and detained him until police arrived, Pepper said.

Caldwell was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 7 where he was charged with felony attempt to commit theft of a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal trespass. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,001 secured bond.
