Rehoboth man thanks kindness of strangers

September 6, 2022

Please allow me to publicly thank two strangers for the kindness they extended to me. On Sept. 1, I started my day like most others with a bike ride on the trail. I stopped at Aldi on my way home to pick up three items and proceeded to the check out. I only carry my phone and ID; I never carry cash on my bike rides. I patiently waited my turn and then tried to pay as I usually do with Apple Pay. This time, there was a problem and it would not connect. I tried several times and then noticed the line was getting longer, so I explained the reason I had no cash on me and apologized to the cashier and the people behind me for the delay and left the checkout area. I was just at the doorway and the woman of the couple behind me, ran over to me and said, "Not to worry, please come back and pick up your order, it has been taken care of." The couple paid for my three items.

I was stunned and all I could say was "Thank you, it is my birthday, you made my day.” I neglected to get their names, so I hope they read the Cape Gazette and know how appreciative I am of their kindness. It is amazing what a broad smile that gesture brought to my face and to everyone that I told. So again, my sincere thanks to you both.
