As of 2 p.m. today, I will no longer be the mayor of Rehoboth Beach. That is when my successor, Susan Stewart, will be sworn into office and take the reins. I believe Mayor Stewart will serve Rehoboth Beach very well, and that our community is in good hands.
Before I go, I want to thank all of you. As I step down after six years as mayor and 12 years before that as an elected official, I can honestly say that serving as mayor of Rehoboth Beach has been one of the great honors of my life, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together.
It has been my pleasure to serve on committees with you; to listen to your feedback and look for ways to improve; to get to know our residents, business owners and visitors; and to feel that I have made a difference.
One of the best parts of this role has been working with our city employees. I can't say enough about how hardworking, dedicated and knowledgeable they are; how welcoming they have been to me these past few years; and simply how good they are to be around. The city is in very good hands when it is in theirs, from the seasonal employees on our beaches, Boardwalk and roads; to the crews who keep our water and wastewater operations running; to the city hall staff and full-timers who work tirelessly with no offseason. To all of them: thank you.
And again, thank you to all of you. It is time for the next chapter, and for new leadership to carry the city forward.
I look forward to retiring here and simply being a resident of the city my wife Marcia and I love so much. You haven't heard the last of Stan Mills, private citizen, of that I'm sure. Thank you for the incredible honor of having served you.
Stan Mills
