The filing deadline for the 2020 Rehoboth Beach municipal election passed at 4 p.m., and officials say there are three candidates for mayor and four candidates for two commissioner seats.

In the mayoral election, incumbent Mayor Paul Kuhns is challenged by former longtime Commissioner Stan Mills as well as current Commissioner Ed Chrzanowski, who was elected in 2019.

In the commissioner election, there are four candidates for two seats – former Commissioner Patrick Gossett, former Commissioner Jay Lagree, Purple Parrot owner Hugh Fuller and planning commission member Rachel Macha. This is the first election for Lagree and Macha. Lagree was commissioner for 10 months beginning in late 2017 when he was appointed to fill Kuhns’ vacant commissioner seat after Kuhns defeated former Mayor Sam Cooper in the race for mayor.

Commissioners Lisa Schlosser and Steve Scheffer did not file for re-election. Schlosser is in her first term; Scheffer was appointed in December 2018 to fill the seat of former Commissioner Kathy McGuiness vacated when she took office as state auditor.
