Rehoboth Touch of Italy holds Carnevale

May 9, 2017

The Touch of Italy annual Carneval celebration was held April 25. The annual Carnevale event at the Rehoboth Beach Touch of Italy and the annual Trip to Italy Raffle benefit the RehobothFoodie.com/Touch of Italy Culinary Scholarship Foundation.

Every spring, Touch of Italy becomes an Italian street fair, celebrating the Italian version of Mardi Gras with classic, regional cuisine and fine wines from five of Italy’s culinary regions. A live auction includes one-of-a-kind experiences like a back-door tour of Arthur Avenue in the Bronx (the real Little Italy); dinner for 10 prepared and served in the winner’s home by the Rehoboth Foodie and owners of several local, high-profile restaurants; and a limo-driven progressive dinner hosted by SoDel Concepts.

High school students at 19 Delaware schools have the opportunity to explore their interest in the food service industry by enrolling in the Delaware Restaurant Association’s ProStart program, an industry-written high school curriculum that introduces budding chefs and managers to the skills - and realities - of food service. If graduates excel in the ProStart program, they often look to continue their education at accredited culinary schools. The tuition at these prestigious schools can sometimes be difficult to pay.
