Remembrance program to honor veterans at Lewes museum Nov. 11

November 7, 2019

The Lewes History Museum will host a remembrance program to honor Delawareans who served to protect the nation, with various events from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11.

Uniformed interpreters will be at the museum along with displays depicting various conflicts in Delaware's past. Interactive displays for adults will be set up in the main portion of the museum.

Discussions regarding Lewes’ enduring legacy throughout the American Revolution and the War of 1812 will take place. Visitors are encouraged to bring images of family veterans to put on the Veterans Wall.

Readings from children’s literature will focus on the role played by children during the War of 1812. A Cannonball Cornhole game will be available to teach about the bombardment of Lewes. Poetry readings and other activities will take place.

This inaugural remembrance program presented by the Lewes Historical Society will reflect on local Delawareans who served throughout history.

“It is our duty to preserve their legacy by teaching the younger generation about what Veterans Day stands for,” said Andrew Lyter, director of museum programming.

Remembrance Day is free to the public, and suitable for families and adults.
