Renowned lawyer to discuss First Amendment July 13
Robert Corn-Revere, best known for successfully petitioning for a posthumous pardon for comedian Lenny Bruce in 2003, will be the featured speaker at the Lewes Public Library Saturday, July 13, as part of the Taking A Stand summer lecture series. The program begins at 6 p.m.
Corn-Revere will discuss his work to secure a pardon for Bruce, who had been convicted nearly 40 years earlier for obscenity in 1964. The charges stemmed from a performance at Cafe Au Go Go in Greenwich Village, when Bruce used more than 100 obscene words, according to reports.
Corn-Revere also successfully defended CBS and Viacom following Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance at Super Bowl XXXVIII.
The lecture series is co-hosted by the Lewes Public Library and Topical Seminars. Topical Seminars is a bi-monthly meeting of members of the community interested in participating in sessions of informed discourse on a variety of topics. The goal is to have a shared learning experience that will improve the social capital of the community.
