About three months in, the masonry crew overseeing a full exterior repointing of St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach has made the turn to the last wall.

Located on the corner of King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, the church is 87 years old and was last repointed in 2009.

Work is going well and moving along nicely even with some weather issues, said Yvonne Bailey, St. Edmond Church business manager, in an email Aug. 4.

In addition to the repointing, the church’s cross has been reinstalled. It was damaged and fell off the roof after a storm this past winter.

The cross was installed June 4, but not before Father William Cocco blessed it, said Bailey.

The company doing the work this summer is Pennsylvania-based Masonry Preservation Services. Scaffolding was erected around the entrance this spring. After more than a month of work, the crew moved to the western side of the church. The company is currently working on the south side of the building. The eastern side of the building, facing King Charles, remains to be repointed.
