Republicans trying to deflect culpability

May 29, 2020

Republicans are fussing about Gov. Carney’s restrictions in place for COVID-19.

Do they not realize that Delaware is among the top 10 U. S. states for new COVID-19 infections per capita? Do they not care that the pandemic is striking minority and low-income people much harder - the very people Republicans apparently want to force back into unsafe working conditions? It’s clear and simple what makes for safe reopening of the economy: testing, tracing, appropriate quarantine. Simple - except we don’t have enough tests, and what we have are evidently not accurate. We are just beginning to mobilize tracers. And quarantine? We even have a Republican leader trying to sue the state for seeking to protect its citizens in the midst of a historic pandemic.

Obviously, this coordinated and cynical attack on sensible precautions is a strategy of deflection and distraction from the abject failure of the Republican administration in Washington to prepare adequately for such a pandemic. Plans were in place; indeed, a team was in place to spot and combat a pandemic internationally - but the Republican administration in Washington had other priorities. Recognize this orchestrated campaign for what it is - don’t buy into the lies. Respect your neighbor. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
