Return to the big screen at Cinema Art Theater

August 31, 2020

As an avid filmgoer I have always enjoyed my weekly (or more) film nights at the art house, sitting in the theater as it darkens with the big screen dancing to colorful life, and the orchestral sound system pulling me into the atmosphere of the film, sharing the experience with others in the theater.

Like others, with the restrictions of the pandemic I still see several films each week, from our couch, on our TV screen. I started getting used to the limitations of this viewing experience: smaller screen, less dramatic music, but an easier time to grab a snack, or use the restroom, take a text, or even make comments during the film. So many films are available for virtual viewing; it’s been easy to binge and easy to get distracted. Last week I went to Cinema Art Theater for the first time in several weeks. There were about 20 people in the 100-seat theater, sitting distant but all of us excited to be sharing the same film experience. As the lights went down and the big screen came to life and the music started, I got that thrilling feeling again - that theater feeling that cannot be duplicated in any home theater, no matter how nice. The big screen made the characters and the scenes so much more engrossing. I appreciated the art of film again. I realized anew what I had been missing “watching TV.”

I urge you to come to CAT to see a film; come to the big-screen theater. It’s safe and clean and extremely well-managed. From the opening scene you will realize what you’ve been missing while sitting on the couch in your jammies.
