Revival House to screen ‘RBG’ and celebrate female filmmakers Jan. 17

January 9, 2019

The Revival House will dedicate the night of Thursday, Jan.17, to female filmmakers by highlighting local female directors and concluding with a screening of the acclaimed documentary “RBG” by directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the screenings starting at 7 p.m. at the Milton Theatre.

According to a recent study, women make up 8 percent of Hollywood filmmakers, a statistic Revival House organizers would like to see grow, and a way to start doing that is by highlighting some of the incredible films created by female directors both locally and nationally. The evening will begin with a number of selected female-directed films from local artists, followed by a screening of the award-winning documentary “RBG.”

Prior to the screenings, Danielle Furst, an award-winning composer, songwriter and pianist, will perform. Furst is no stranger to the big screen herself, having composed scores for the Peabody Award-winning docu-series “Time: The Kalief Browder Story,” and the Jay-Z produced docu-series “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.”

“RBG” tells the life story of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has developed a breathtaking legal legacy and become a pop-culture icon in the process. The film premiered in 2018 at the Sundance Film Festival and has since been winning awards at festivals around the globe.

Ginsburg is the oldest sitting Supreme Court justice, and despite her age, she is a political powerhouse. As the first female, Jewish justice, she has been instrumental to the feminist movement and other social justice movements for more than 20 years.

With unprecedented access, the filmmakers explore how her early legal battles changed the world for women. With exclusive interviews with Ginsburg and her family, this is the most in-depth documentary of Ginsburg’s incredible legacy.

Tickets are $10, or $5 for students and seniors. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.MiltonTheatre.com or www.revivalhouse.com, or call 302-684-3038. This event is for all ages.
