We are writing in support of the candidacy of Richard Moore for mayor of Lewes. Ric is an intelligent, serious and compassionate individual, with a depth of experience at the federal level of service that includes leadership in the energy sector, with an emphasis on international renewable resources. He currently serves on the oversight board for Delaware Sustainable Energy Utilities. Ric is an energetic and committed advocate of community cohesion and environmental preservation, all with the interrelated interests and welfare of individuals, families and the community as a whole at heart. Our community truly needs someone in service of these ideals. To have Ric at the helm would be to support and promote solutions to some of the most important needs of the community. These include protection of our resources through furthering sustainable development and management practices that control undue, even destructive, overdevelopment. These goals also include cultivating more healthful and safer surroundings, as in green spaces; supporting necessary but environmentally conscientious infrastructure; and encouraging a spirit of an open and welcoming First Town. Ric is that community-minded person.
Consideration of our physical environment in every aspect (land use, with special concern for wetlands; water, drinking and recreational; our beaches; the air) is of paramount importance! Ramifications with respect to our social environment are inseparable from the effects of decisions concerning the physical dimension, especially, most seriously, in light of the climate crisis at our doorstep. Ric is dedicated to addressing these concerns and working to best manage them, in collaboration with the city’s resources and with all of us. In addition, Ric’s skills and expertise are enhanced by his experiences in mediation, which would be a vital contribution to the relational nature of coordinating personalities, practices and plans entailed in governing at the community level. Balancing any arguments concerning lack of specific experience in leading local government would be Ric’s enthusiastic and intelligent approach to, and experience in, devising solutions for tangible problems at individual and social levels.
Ric Moore is a person of great warmth and of genuine interest in and concern for others, both as individuals and as members of the whole. He is passionately committed to principles of a just and kind society, in which he clearly invests himself wholeheartedly. And Ric brings the practical tools, the history and varied experiences, to implement those very priorities. He would be a wonderfully effective mayor of Lewes, and we strongly support his candidacy.
