Richard Marvel Wootten Jr., Sonny Karl’s employee

Richard Marvel Wootten Jr., 69, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at Lofland Park Center in Seaford where he was a resident for 19 years.

Richard was born Aug. 31, 1949, to the late Richard Marvel Wootten Sr. and Charlotte (Ellis) Jennings. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Ida Mae Wootten whom he loved very much, and a sister, Connie Porch of Florida.  He grew up in the Lewes-Rehoboth area, and enjoyed working as a security guard and a mechanic and gas attendant at Sonny Karl’s gas station in Rehoboth Beach. 

He is survived by his sons, Richard (Jori) Wootten III and Doug Layfield of Georgetown; daughter Chrissy Hufnal of Magnolia; brothers Harold (Susan) Dutton Jr. of Lewes, and William (Bill) Dutton of Millsboro; stepbrother Kenny Dutton of Dewey Beach; sisters Kathy (Rick) Jennings of Lincoln, and Judy (Frank) Smith of Georgetown; stepsister Lisa Dutton of Greenwood; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to express great appreciation to the staff at Lofland Park Center who were dedicated to making his life rich and enjoyable. He developed many friendships and was loved by all who came to know him. Our family will continue to remember Richard as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and son, who was always willing to help others and had a great sense of humor. 

Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 11:30 a.m. Family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 274 N. Rehoboth Blvd., Milford.
