Robert N. Cooke, General Motors retiree

Robert N. Cooke, 91, of Harbeson passed away surrounded by his loving family Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Chester, Pa., Jan. 30, 1928, son of the late William Joseph Cooke Sr. and the late Mary Jane Victor (Kerr) Cooke. Mr. Cooke proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps just after World War II as an aircraft mechanic.  He also served in the Merchant Marine.

Robert worked for General Motors for 39 years before his retirement.  He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297 in Rehoboth Beach and a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians in Ocean City, Md.

In addition to his parents, seven brothers and two sisters, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel M. Cooke in 2015; and a son, Robert N. Cooke Jr. in 2006.  He is survived by his three sons, Charles “Gus” Cooke and his wife Michele of North Wilmington, William Cooke and his wife Lisa of Smyrna, and George Cooke and his wife Colleen of Harbeson; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
