Rodney Eugene Butler, retired supervisor

Rodney Eugene Butler, 86, of Lewes passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Amos and Madge (Zell) Butler.
Mr. Butler worked for many years at the Naval Research Lab and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, D.C., as a supervisor of the machine shop from which he retired in 1992. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he was stationed aboard the USS Boxer and the USS Champlain. He was a member of the Lewes Senior Center, the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge No. 2540, and lifetime member of VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth. In his spare time, Mr. Butler loved watching westerns and the Washington Redskins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his sister Lorraine Worrell, and his brothers: Jack, Amos and Donald Butler. He is survived by his wife Hazel (Gibbs) Butler of Lewes; his daughter Vicki Gayle Butler and her husband Gregory Riddell of Denver, Colo.; and his son Rodney Eugene Butler Jr. of Washington, D.C.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 21, at 2:30 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Butler home. Interment will be held at a later date at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
