Rodney A. Hitchens, Merck technician

Rodney A. Hitchens, 66, of Millsboro passed away in the care of Bayhealth Sussex in Milford Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020.  He was born Feb. 23, 1953, to the late Harvey Layton Hitchens Sr. and Maxine Johnson Hitchens in Millsboro. 

He was a technician for Merck Laboratories.  Rodney was associated with the Nanticoke Indian Tribe.  He liked working on cars and playing pool.  He was a quiet man who often kept to himself.  He was also a hard worker, took great pride in his work and was devoted to his son.

He is survived by his son, Quinlan M. Heacook of Georgetown, and was preceded by another son, Rodney Beckett, in 1991. Rodney is also survived by his siblings: Sonia West (Randy) of Millsboro, Angela Burton (Ross) of Dover, Harvey Layton Hitchens (Irene) of Millsboro, Gerald Hitchens of Millsboro and Terrence Hitchens of California.  He is also survived by extended family and friends.

A viewing and visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6 till 7 p.m.   A funeral service follows at 7 p.m., with Elder Edward Cannon officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to: Alzheimer’s Association, 108 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, DE  19947.
