Roger Thomas “Tom” Jordan, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 20, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
Tom was born Jan. 7, 1944, in Washington, D.C., to Roger Edward Jordan and Isabelle Marjorie Jordan. An only child, he grew up surrounded by many first cousins, several of whom were like brothers and sisters to him. Though he was a city boy growing up, some of his fondest childhood memories came from the months he spent with his uncle, aunt and cousins on his family’s farm in West Virginia.
Tom lived a life marked by faith, family, hard work, loyalty, selfless sacrifice and determination. He was a man of deep belief in God and trusted in his Christian faith throughout his life. To his family and to those who truly knew him, Tom had a West Virginia charm and humor – warm, quick, and touched by just the right amount of mischief.
Earlier in life, Tom was married to Mary (Lindstrom) Major, and together they had his son, Thomas.
For 53 years, Tom was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, Nelly Aliste Jordan. Their marriage was one of reciprocal devotion. They spent their lives serving, helping, and loving each other in the ways they best knew how. Though they came from very different beginnings – Tom, a city boy from Washington, D.C., and Nelly from Chile, where she grew up on a farm before moving to the city – they complemented each other completely. Together, they built a life centered on family, commitment, faith and enduring love.
Tom was a caring father to Thomas R. Jordan, Michael E. Jordan and Lisa M. Euliss. He treated his son-in-law, Russell Euliss, like a full son and loved the conversations he shared with his daughter-in-law, Johanna. He was also a proud grandfather to Alison, Westley, Russell, and Elizabeth – known as Grandpa to Michael’s children and Papa to Lisa’s children.
Though Tom kept a smaller circle of friends, the friendships he had were close and meaningful. He was loyal to the people he loved. One of the clearest ways he showed his love was by being there when he was needed.
Tom was a printer by trade and worked his entire career for one business, working his way up to manage the printing department, where he served until his retirement. He was proud of the legacy he left there. He also started and ran his own printing business, often rising at 4 in the morning to prepare for work, driving an hour home at the end of the day, and then, after dinner, heading down to work in his print shop. He never complained about having to work. If he complained at all, it was because he was not yet satisfied with the job. He believed in doing things well, seeing things through, and providing for the people he loved.
Tom enjoyed target shooting, classic cars, recreational pool and Washington football, remaining a lifelong fan of the team from his hometown. He played pool in a league and won championships, but what he loved most was the time spent playing at home with his children and grandchildren.
Tom lived most of his adult life in Maryland and later settled into retirement at his family's beach house in Delaware. What began as a patch of land with a beat-up trailer became something much more. Over the years, he improved it and eventually created the home he wanted, with room for his cars, projects and favorite pastimes. His family spent many summers and weekends there, enjoying with him the place he built through years of dedication and sacrifice.
In recent years, Tom also bought a home in Middletown, Md., where he could spend more time closer to his daughter and her family. It was another reflection of what mattered most to him: being near the people he loved.
His life was a testament to faith, family, loyalty, hard work, and love. He held deeply to his beliefs, including his commitment to the protection of unborn life, and he sought to live according to the values he cherished.
Tom is survived by his wife, Nelly Aliste Jordan; his children, Thomas R. Jordan, Michael E. Jordan and Lisa M. Euliss; his son-in-law, Russell Euliss; his daughter-in-law, Johanna; his grandchildren, Alison, Westley, Russell and Elizabeth; several beloved cousins; and many family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Edward Jordan and Isabelle Marjorie Jordan.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 27, at Thompson-Harman Funeral Home in Middletown, Md., with an open casket from 2 to 4 p.m. and a closed casket from 4 to 5 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held at noon, Monday, July 6, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Middletown, Md.
Burial will take place at noon, Saturday, July 11, at Old Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville, W.Va.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation in Tom’s memory to the American Heart Association, heart.org, or to a pro-life charity of choice.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in their faith and in the knowledge that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved and trusted throughout his life.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23.
