Royals volleyball spikes Sussex Tech 3-0

Delmarva Christian’s volleyball squad took a 25-12, 25-12 and 25-21 victory over visiting Sussex Tech at the Dig Pink, Volley for the Cure night Oct. 7 at Delmarva Christian.

Ashlyn Stonebraker and Tessa Kwiatkowski teamed for 22 assists to lead the Royals. Sophomore Makayla Heinrichs put up nine helpers in the match. Grace Fetterman bumped 12 digs in the contest. Sierra Troyer knocked down 10 kills, while Savannah Stewart put down six. Mia Berger served six aces.

“Volleyball is all about repetitions,” said Royals coach Jim Berger. “We got to go over some things and worked on hitting some spots on our serves.”

“I think what mattered most tonight was that we got our energy up and we built a little momentum going forward for the rest of the season,” Stewart said. “We got to play all of our team, which is always good.”

The Ravens were paced by Nataleigh Hunter with five aces and six assists. Sarah Perdue slammed four kills, while Hanna Gorski added three.

The Royals ran into a buzzsaw Oct. 9 when they traveled to Archmere Academy. They returned with a 7-25,14-25 and 15-25 defeat.

“Archmere is a very good team,” said coach Berger. “We didn’t play well, which didn’t help.”

The Royals move to 11-3 on the season and travel to Holly Grove Christian School Friday, Oct. 11.

The Ravens defeated Woodbridge 3-0 Oct. 8.

Brynn Parker bumped 12 digs, Hunter put up 11 assists, Alex Johnson slammed eight aces and Karly Davis and Jessica Truitt bumped 10 and nine digs, respectively.Sydney West also passed nine assists.

The 5-5 Ravens host Sussex Academy Tuesday, Oct. 15.
