Savannah Road at city limits to close for rail crossing removal

Railroad crossing at Route 9-Cool Spring Road closing Monday, May 7

Savannah Road at the entrance to Lewes city limits will be closed from 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, until 11:59 p.m., Thursday, May 3, in order for Delaware Coast Line Railroad to remove the railroad crossing.

Detour routes: Eastbound: Savannah Road to Wescoats Road to Kings Highway onto Theodore C. Freeman Highway to Cape Henlopen Drive and return to Savannah Road.

Westbound: Savannah Road to Cape Henlopen Drive onto Theodore C. Freeman Highway to Kings Highway to Wescoats Road and back to Savannah Road.

Detour signage will be posted.

In addition, signs have been posted announcing that the railroad crossing at Cool Spring Road and Route 9 will be closed Monday, May 7.

 

Railroad crossings to be removed during May

During May, Delaware Coast Line Railroad Company will be removing railroad crossings and the following roadways will be temporarily closed during times before Memorial Day. Dates and times will be announced and message boards and detour signs will be in place.

Savannah Road between Wescoats Road and Kings Highway, Lewes; Route9/Kings Highway between Devries Circle and Beach Plum Drive, Lewes; Route9/Lewes-Georgetown Highway between Fisher Road and Josephs Road, Harbeson; Coolspring Road between Log Cabin Hill Road and Fisher Road, Harbeson; Gills Neck Road between Savannah Road and Kings Highway, Lewes; Monroe Avenue between Kings Highway and Theodore C. Freeman Highway, Lewes.

DelDOT will be announcing dates later in May regarding the temporary closures of Park Avenue between Bedford Street and Cedar Lane in Georgetown and Harbeson Road between Route 9/Lewes Georgetown Highway and Gravel Hill Road in Harbeson.
