SBY Marathon attracts 833 in-person runners

Event also features half-marathon and 5K

The SBY Marathon attracted 833 in-person runners April 3. Race distances offered on the downtown Salisbury courses included a full marathon, half marathon and five kilometers. 

A total of 328 runners elected the marathon distance, with another 382 running the half marathon and 123 running the 5K. 

The RunSBY group had approval from the State of Maryland for in-person racing to occur as long as certain protocols were followed.   

Connor Hesselbirg, 25, from Kings Park, N.Y., was the overall marathon winner in 2:32.25. The first 21 runners broke three hours. 

Doug Mock, now 54, who tore up the local racing scene in his younger days, regularly running sub-15-minute 5Ks, placed ninth overall in the marathon in 2:49. 

Natalie Patterson, 28, of Fredericksburg, Va., was first overall woman in the marathon with a time of 2:51.46.  

Tyler Muse, 27, of Bel Air, Md., who races regularly in the Ten Sisters series in Dewey Beach, was overall winner in the half marathon in 1:08:34. Hannah Cocchiaro, 29, of Baltimore was the women’s winner in 1:15:07. 

Francisco Puac, 36, of Georgetown was 12th overall and third in his age group in 1:18:58. 

Jackie Quigley, 53, of Georgetown won the 50-54 age group in 1:48:34. Carl Kylen, 64, of Ocean View was second in his age group in 1:41:58. Woody Disharoon, 72, of Laurel placed second in the 70-74 group in 2:44:07. 

Richard Saunders, 32, of Henrico, Va., was the 5K winner in 17:17. Monica Pampell, 35, of Washington, D.C., was the first woman and second overall in 17:29. 

Steve Eshelman, 27, of Millsboro was third overall in 18:46. Trudy Dalton, 35, of Selbyville was the first Delaware woman finisher in 21:32.

The Seashore Striders will host its first in-person 5K Sunday, April 25, at the Dairy Queen on Lewes Beach. The Seashore Half Marathon and 5K is scheduled for Saturday, May 8. 

Races2Run will feature the fifth annual Running of the Goat: Mispillion Edition Friday, May 21, staged at the Mispillion Brewery off Airport Road in Milford. No dogs are allowed on the race course, but growlers are permitted at the finish if you’re 21 or over.
