Schaeffer supports coastal-area ordinance

February 4, 2021

On Feb. 2, Sussex County Council unanimously approved the coastal-area ordinance which brings enhanced protection to environmentally sensitive areas of Sussex County.  The amendment also brings equity to individual property rights and particularly the rights of our farmers. It also brings conformity of land-use application through the entire county.

This vote was just another reaffirmation of my commitment and the commitment of my fellow council members to always work toward enhancing and protecting the quality of life of the citizens we represent. I was honored to strongly support this ordinance and make the motion for adoption.

It is also important to recognize the men and women who volunteer as members of our planning and zoning commission.  They make a herculean effort every day to represent the best interests of our citizens.  Their work on the coastal-area ordinance was substantial and is appreciated.

In your service,

Mark G. Schaeffer
councilman
Sussex County Council 3rd District
