Scholar to lecture on Simone Weil at Lewes library Jan. 28

Eric Springsted, a noted Simone Weil scholar, will speak at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, as part of The Life & Legacy of Simone Weil lecture series. The series is hosted by the Lewes Public Library, Topical Seminars Group and Rehoboth Beach Writers’ Guild.

Springsted is the co-founder of the American Weil Society and served as its president for 33 years. He is the author, editor and translator of a dozen books, seven of which have been on Simone Weil. His works on Weil have appeared in a half-dozen languages.

He spent his career as a teacher, scholar and pastor, having taught at Illinois College, Princeton Theological Seminary, and General Theological Seminary in New York. Springsted served numerous Presbyterian churches in the Northeast including Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C., and Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.

Retired now, Springsted lives with his wife in Santa Fe, N.M., where he is engaged in a number of writing projects, including a forthcoming book on Weil.

Springsted will speak as a guest lecturer in the series being conducted by Ronald Collins, University of Washington law professor and Lewes resident. The lecture series will meet weekly from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., starting Monday, Jan. 7.
