Seaford Central fifth-graders meet local author Aimee Massey

June 19, 2019

Seaford Central Elementary School Library Media Specialist Lesley Holland recently hosted an event to introduce author Aimee Massey and her newly published children’s book, “Odric the Bold,” to fifth-graders.

Having read the book, the students asked questions about the author’s inspiration, the book’s characters, setting, themes, and how to write and publish a book, and Massey provided answers.

“Odric the Bold” was selected by National Library Services as an audio book for sight-challenged people.

The story focuses on 9-year-old Odric, who is small for his age and blind, yet impulsively volunteers to undertake a quest to find blue gourds for his village’s beloved Blue Gourd Festival after bad weather and insect damage cause a shortage. The village adults all have excuses for not making the trek to find them.

The book, published by Salt Water Media in Berlin, Md., teaches many life lessons through the eyes of some whimsical forest animals. Odric’s imagination and resourcefulness are keys to his successful quest.

To buy the book online, go to www.goodreads.com, www.amazon.com or www.barnesandnoble.com.

Massey is available for readings at libraries, schools and other community venues. To schedule a reading or to buy the book directly from Massey, email asm1976@comcast.net or call her at 302-236-4209.
