The Sussex Academy's girls’ lacrosse team led 7-3 at halftime, but felt the pressure of Sussex Tech April 23 on the Seahawks’ home field.
The Ravens closed the gap to 7-5 early in the second half on the strength of Nataleigh Hunter and Ava Dunn. The Seahawks responded by going on a 13-1 run to close out the game, earning a 20-6 win to improve their record to 8-0 on the season. Sussex Tech fell to 4-2.
Sussex Academy has outscored opponents 147-23, as junior goalie Peyton Hagy is credited with two shutouts and a 2.8 goals against average.
The Seahawks will host Smyrna – losers of five in a row – Wednesday, April 28, before visiting 11-time state champion Cape Henlopen at 6:15 p.m., Friday, April 30.
Sussex Academy scorers were Madison Leeper, Macy Steinwedel and Shelby Manlove with three each; Sanne Elling, Else Leebel, Annabella Guckes and Addison Basile with two apiece; and Madison Burke, Addy Leonhartt and Lilian Manlove each scoring one goal.
Sussex Tech was paced by Hunter with four goals and Dunn with two.
