Selbyville man pleads guilty to attempted murder

November 10, 2017

A Selbyville man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and rape charges after police said he tried to force himself on a woman in December 2016.

Temourise Taylor, 31, pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted murder, second-degree rape, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, strangulation and terroristic threatening in Delaware Superior Court Nov. 3. He will be sentenced Friday, Dec. 22.

Police say Taylor had propositioned the victim, an acquaintance, to have sex with him when she went to his house to drop off Christmas presents. She left with Taylor to go back to her house, police said, but Taylor drove her to a secluded area on Blueberry Farm Road, west of Selbyville. She got out of the car and started walking away when Taylor went after her and grabbed her skirt. She struck him in the face, and in response, Taylor took out a knife and stabbed her in the upper torso.

Police say the woman freed herself and went to a truck parked nearby occupied by a driver who witnessed the stabbing. The driver called 911 and Taylor drove away from the scene. Taylor was later found by Delaware State Police during a traffic stop on Route 113.
