Programs and events for September begin with Jackpot Bingo fundraisers set for Wednesdays, Sept. 9 and 23, open to the public. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.; games start at 1 p.m., at CHSC, 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach. Proceeds support the center’s activities and programs.
A presentation about Easterseals Delaware and Maryland's Eastern Shore will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, offered by Linda Forte, Easterseals community relations/marketing coordinator. For more than 75 years, this nonprofit organization has been working with children and adults who have disabilities to create solutions that change lives and to build a society where everyone is included.
A representative from the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program will offer information at 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, about how it can help attendees take control of their health. In this supportive group setting, individuals will learn how to make small, realistic lifestyle changes like eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and maintaining a healthy weight that can make a big difference. A free seminar on Securing Your Final Wishes will be presented at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, by Terry Tolson, director of preplanning and specialty services for LegalShield. A Senior Fraud Awareness Seminar set for 9 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, will cover current scam tactics, identity theft prevention tips, and strategies to help seniors safeguard their assets and personal information. Staying informed means staying protected.
The CHSC offers a variety of fitness and exercise classes, and the Fall Into Fitness Showcase is a perfect way to learn more, starting at 9 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16. A 15-minute demonstration will be offered for each option: Balance Class, Chair Aerobics, Fitness Circuit Training, LaBlast, Line Dancing, Moving the Moment, Qi Gong, Sit & Get Fit, Tai Chi for Balance, Tai Chi for Health, Chair Yoga and Gentle Yoga, followed by a light lunch for registered attendees. Space is limited; call 302-227-2055 by Tuesday, Oct. 13, to sign up. There are small fees for all exercise classes, and the center also has a well-appointed fitness room.
All members are welcome to join the CHSC Weigh Down Support Group, and find the encouragement and support needed to reach their goals. The group meets from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Friday, and the cost is just $1.25 per week.
