"Put me in coach. I'm ready to play today." The Cape girls' lacrosse team closed out the regular season May 13 at Champions Stadium, defeating Milford 17-5 while honoring seven graduating seniors.
Cape enters the Friday, May 15 DIAA postseason tournament seeding meeting with a record of 13-2 and a likely top-four seed. The top four receive a double bye and will not play until hosting a quarterfinal game Saturday, May 23.
Milford closed out the season with a record of 8-6 and will likely get a tournament bid.
Leading the scoring for Cape were Mikaela Gordon and Regan Best each with four goals. Avery Miller had three goals, while Haley Gamuciello tallied two. Single goals were scored by Claire Lopez, Ally Diehl, Mairead Rishko and Makenzie Todd.
Leaders in assists were Lopez with three, Gamuciello and Todd with two, and Best, Diehl and Amara Fruchtman each with one.
Goalies Jordan Murray and Emily Wells each had three saves.
Milford had five different players score one goal each; they were Molly Masten, Tristen Showell, Morgan Sellheimer, Isabel Betts and Katelyn Joseph.
Senior goalie Madison Stahl had four saves.
Notes: Tower Hill finished the season 15-0, followed by Padua 14-1 and Cape 13-2. There were eight teams with five or fewer losses. Final seeding will be based on strength of schedule. Cape defeated Tower Hill in the 2025 finals 20-9.
