Singalong with ‘Moana’ to celebrate World Oceans Day June 10

May 29, 2018

All ages are invited to make waves for World Oceans Day at MERR Institute’s Family Splash at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 10, at the Milton Theatre, featuring a singalong screening of “Moana” at 3 p.m.

Doors will open at 2 p.m. with face painting, coloring and an educational exhibit from the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute. Members of MERR will be on hand to provide information about local coastal waters and show the many ways it helps to protect the ocean and its inhabitants.

Starting at 3 p.m., all are invited to a sing-along screening of “Moana.” Fans are invited to warm up their vocal cords and set sail with this popular animated tale, featuring such hits as the Golden Globe-nominated “How Far I’ll Go,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“Moana” is a sweeping, computer-graphic-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli‘i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demigod Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “The Princess and the Frog”) and produced by Osnat Shurer (“Lifted,” “One Man Band”), “Moana” has a perfect message for World Oceans Day while being entertaining for the entire family.

MERR is a nonprofit stranding response and rehabilitation organization dedicated to the conservation of marine mammals and sea turtles. It is MERR's commitment to contribute to the preservation of these species through research and rescue efforts, and to foster greater understanding and appreciation of these species and their habitat through education and enhanced public awareness.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. To reserve tickets, go to www.ticketfly.com.
