A May 26 article in the Cape Gazette reported that Sussex County Council rejected a plan for a Selbyville solar farm out of concern for losing valuable fertile land.
It is frankly difficult to take the concerns of some members of Sussex County Council seriously when we witness the relentless march of residential and commercial development paving over the very same soil permanently.
Over the last 25 years, the county's population has almost doubled, and more than 55,000 homes have been built, resulting in hundreds of farms being sold and cleared.
Denying a solar farm that provides renewable energy and can be removed in the future, while rubber-stamping sprawling subdivisions, shows a profound lack of foresight for our county's energy and environmental future.
