Solar users should receive fair treatment

September 6, 2022

Recently, the Legislature passed SB298, which in effect allows the power companies of Delaware not to buy excess energy generated from solar panels. The power company is now receiving a monetary windfall because of this legislation at the expense of power company consumers. They are now receiving a raw material at zero cost and selling it to other customers at an exorbitant profit. For example, I generated 50% excess kWh more than I used this past month and did not receive any monetary reimbursement. I still ended up receiving an electric bill. I have contacted my legislator and received a reply, “We were a little misled by the debate.” I have been unable to secure an appointment to discuss this important matter. Please have your readers contact their representative and let them know that it is unfair that a person who produces excess kWh from solar panels is still receiving a bill from the power company.
