Southeastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour set Nov. 29-30

Art in the Hat raffle proceeds support local school arts programs
November 18, 2019

Showcasing some of the area’s finest art, the artists of the Southeastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour will open their studios to celebrate the event’s 25th anniversary from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29-30.

The tour started as a grassroots effort by local artists to raise awareness of the impressive quality of art being created in the area. Four of the original artists, Jennifer Carter, Laura Hickman, Ellen Rice and Sabie Carey, will join with nine other artists for this year’s tour. This year Mary Yeagley Bower will be joining the tour, featuring her hand-sculpted, ceramic decorative tiles.

The tour is self-guided so visitors can take it at their own pace. It is an amazing journey of fine art in blown glass, pottery, ceramic tiles, stained fused glass, photography, jewelry and paintings in acrylic, watercolor, oil, pastel and mixed medium. Attendees will see the artists in their studios where their art is created, and have the opportunity to watch live demonstrations and talk to the artists. The tour is a great opportunity to obtain unique holiday gifts without the stress of the crowds and traffic of the big box stores.

The tour also provides a way to give back to the community through the Art in the Hat raffle. Each artist has donated a piece of art that will be raffled off at the end of the tour.

Tom Frey, who many will remember from previous years, also has donated a raffle item even though he has retired from the tour. A full 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to art programs in the local schools. Since its inception in 2000, $63,000 has been raised and donated.

To pick up a brochure with a map, visit any of the tour’s sponsors: Good Earth Market & Restaurant, Gallery One, Indigo Opal Salon, Jayne’s Reliable, Ocean Vayu Yoga and Ellen Rice Studio and Learning Center, as well as many local retailers.
