Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding welcomes riders

May 20, 2020

Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding riders who’ve been unable to go to the farm during the pandemic were welcomed May 16 for a drive-through, socially distant celebration at the facility in Milton.

Riders and their families stayed in their vehicles while the horses and volunteers greeted them in the parking lot.

SDTR’s mission is to improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of children and adults living with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy in a supportive environment for riders and families.

In early March, the SDTR board took necessary steps to stop its normal lesson schedule. The board and volunteers have been working diligently on essential activities that have kept the barn running, including taking care of its horses, goats, and cat; making sure the facility stays in great condition; creating nontraditional opportunities that participants and riders can enjoy and grow from; and developing strategies and plans for key financial decision-making related to paying bills in the short term and being fiscally stable in the long run.
