April 13, 2019

Southern Delaware Tourism has announced the winners of its 2019 Southern Delaware Photography Contest.

The Grand Prize winner is “Silhouettes,” by Darrell Staggs of Mooresville, Ind.

For Southern Delaware Downtowns, “Tulips in Downtown Bethany Beach” garnered first place for Alan Wilder of Pikesville, Md.
For Enjoying Scenic Southern Delaware, “Women Walking on Dune,” also by Alan Wilder, earned first place.
For Enjoying Outdoor Adventures, “Women Doing Yoga on Beach,” by T. Brian Jones of San Diego, Calif., came in first.

Southern Delaware Tourism received hundreds of entries between Jan. 1 and March 15.

Contest organizers are extremely grateful for the support of tourism partners who contributed contest prizes, and for the work of photographer Kevin Fleming in judging the entries. Fleming, a Delaware native, has covered the world as a photographer for National Geographic and has been recognized as America’s Best Observer by Reader’s Digest. His photography has won many national and international awards. “It was great to see so many entries of both familiar and unfamiliar places in southern Delaware. All of the winners were standouts,” said Fleming.

“The contest was established to celebrate Southern Delaware and to keep our destination top of mind for visitors and potential visitors year-round,” said Scott Thomas, executive director of SDT. “We received entries from all over the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. The entries clearly demonstrate the variety and richness of experiences available in Sussex County, and the incredible enjoyment people get from visiting and living here.”
