Special screening of ‘Shank’s’ set at Cinema Art Theater Jan. 15

Discussion and Marathi snacks to follow film
January 11, 2019

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present a special screening of “Shank’s,” at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15.

The film takes a beguiling look at the culinary journey of one chef who goes against all odds to open a restaurant specializing in Marathi cuisine, almost unknown outside of India, and rises to success with the help of his French wife.

The debut feature of director Ashay Javadekar, “Shank’s” played at the 2018 Rehoboth Beach Regional Showcase, an annual event that highlights the talents of emerging filmmakers from the Mid-Atlantic region. “Shank’s” is a unique film for fans of chef-driven documentaries, people who love food, and/or those who love storytelling that’s not quite what it seems.

Javadekar and his wife Madhura will be on hand for this appetizing cinematic and culinary experience. After the film, Ashay will talk about his filmmaking experience and answer questions from the audience. Attendees will then be invited to sample several Marathi snacks prepared by Madhura, who was the executive producer of the film and also created all of the food in it.

Admission for the screening is $15. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening
