St. George’s Chapel tea toasts 300th anniversary

August 18, 2019

The parish hall of St. George’s Chapel on Beaver Dam Road in Harbeson was transformed into an English tea room Aug. 10 as about 150 parishioners and friends gathered for a special Tercentenary Celebration of the church.

The menu included berry scones with crème fraiche and jam, savory tea sandwiches, fresh fruit spears, an elegant array of delectable sweets, and both Earl Grey tea and fruited iced tea.

The St. George’s Dragons men’s club members served as waiters. Guests were entertained by renowned harpist Janet Witman, who played classical romantic music on her vintage gold harp.

Many attendees won drawings for gifts and door prizes.

The Episcopal Women’s Club of St. George’s planned the tea as its August event during the yearlong commemoration of the 300th anniversary of St. George’s Chapel.

St. George’s Chapel is at 20274 Beaver Dam Road, Route 23, Harbeson. For more information, call 302-227-7202 or go to www.allsaintsandstgeorges.org.
