St. Peter’s Lewes seeks choral scholar applicants

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes has launched a new choral scholar program.

Designed to support dedicated music students of high school age, the program will provide ensemble singing experience and voice lessons.

Sophomore, junior and senior students actively involved in a choral ensemble in high school during the coming school year may apply, with the recommendation of their choral teacher and consent of parents. The St. Cecilia Guild, an outreach ministry of St. Peter’s music program, will fully underwrite the cost of scholars’ voice lessons.

“Successful choral scholars are expected to be highly proficient sight singers and possess excellent aural skills,” said T.J. Thomas, minister of music and choir director.

Voice teachers will be selected in consultation with the minister of music and the student’s choral teacher. Choral scholars will be integrated with dedicated and experienced St. Peter’s parish choir members, rehearsing and singing advanced choral repertoire. Scholars will be expected to attend all rehearsals and services sung by St. Peter’s parish choir, including Christmas, Holy Week and Easter, among other special choral events.

Applicants from all traditions and backgrounds are welcome. There are currently two openings for treble voices (soprano/mezzo).
