St. Peter’s to host 52nd Annual Art Show July 7

July 1, 2018

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes will host its 52nd Annual Art Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, July 7, on St. Peter’s Square at Second and Market streets and the nearby M&T Bank parking lot. Admission is free, and the show takes place rain or shine.

Begun as a clothesline art show in 1966, the event is one of the oldest and finest outdoor art shows in the mid-Atlantic region, featuring 140 artists and artisans from Delmarva and beyond. Proceeds benefit those in need in the Cape Henlopen School District.

This year, several new exhibitors will join longtime show participants displaying original paintings, photographs, jewelry, carvings, ceramics, mixed-media creations and more.

In addition to browsing the artwork, visitors can buy tickets for a featured artists raffle and bid in a silent auction of works donated by show exhibitors and displayed in the parish hall. Face painting will be provided for children’s entertainment.

Grab-and-go lunches prepared by Episcopal Church Women members and friends will be for sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish hall. Menu items include hot dogs, veggie dogs and pulled-pork sliders.

St. Peter’s Green Team will be selling reusable water bottles and jute shopping bags. Free chilled water will be available throughout the day.

Shade and air conditioning will be available in St. Peter’s 19th century church building, where T. J. Thomas, parish music director, will give an interactive demonstration of the impressive organ, and Don Matthews, parish historian, will lead tours of the historic site.

Free parking will be available at Shields Elementary School on Savannah Road, with shuttle service from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. provided courtesy of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty of Lewes.

A special display in the window of Citizens Bank on Second Street features photos and information about the raffle items, including how to buy tickets.

St. Peter’s Church, founded in 1681, offers five Eucharistic services weekly and sponsors an interfaith Summer Spirituality Series at 7 p.m., Thursdays through Aug. 30. A self-guided tour information guide for the historic churchyard is available.
