The Delaware Department of Human Resources will host its fourth and final statewide career fair of the year from 12 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, at the Stockley Center campus, 26351 Patriots Way, Georgetown.
A morning session reserved for invited high school students from across the state will provide youth with an opportunity to learn about career pathways and explore employment opportunities in government.
The afternoon session, open to the general public, will focus on connecting adult job seekers with part-time, full-time and casual seasonal employment opportunities. Members of the public are encouraged to attend during public hours to learn about career opportunities with the State of Delaware. Spanish language interpreters will be available onsite to assist attendees. Registration is open at statejobs.delaware.gov.
"A good-paying job is about more than a paycheck. It’s a chance to build a better future for yourself and your family.” said Gov. Matt Meyer. “Whether you’re a student starting your career, looking for a new opportunity or rebuilding your life after involvement with the justice system, this career fair is about opening doors to meaningful careers and real second chances.”
This is the first year DHR career fairs have been held in all three Delaware counties.
“We recognize that access and awareness are key to building a talented, diverse workforce, and we want to ensure anyone interested in serving Delaware has the information and support they need to pursue these opportunities,” said Yvonne Anders Gordon, DHR secretary. “By bringing our career fairs directly into local communities, we are making it easier for people to explore careers in public service and take the next step in their professional journey.”
As part of the afternoon session, DHR will also connect justice-involved job seekers with employment and career opportunities in state government. This initiative is a collaborative effort among DHR, the Department of Correction and the Department of Labor to expand employment pathways for justice-involved individuals.
“Thank you to the Department of Human Resources for playing a leading role in supporting second-chance hiring in state government for justice-involved individuals who are committed to working hard to build a career and pursue a new path forward,” said Terra Taylor, Department of Correction commissioner.
“Creating pathways to meaningful employment starts with making sure Delawareans know where the opportunities are and have the support they need to pursue them,” said said LaKresha Moultrie, Department of Labor secretary. “This career fair brings together state agencies, employers and job seekers to create those connections, while giving individuals an opportunity to see themselves building a career in public service. We are proud to partner with DHR and the Department of Correction to expand access to opportunity and help more Delawareans take their next step forward.”
Before each career fair, DHR’s central talent acquisition team collaborates with state agencies to identify apprenticeships, internships, job openings and other opportunities suitable for youth and adults, including positions that allow for on-site direct hiring and immediate interviews.
