Support commissioners, homeowners who welcome guests

August 6, 2018

There seems to be a tendency for some who live locally, or have the ability to own a second home in Rehoboth without renting to visitors, to have an unfavorable view of those of us who do rent our homes.

Many of us who do rent out our homes for one reason or another are not able to either live here full time or afford to have a house left empty much of the year. Why not share?

Many of our renters are families just like us, and so enjoy a chance to spend some time in our homes when they visit Rehoboth for its wonderful amenities. These visitors make it possible for us to have and keep our homes for our families. While some owners are at a point in their lives where they do not want or need to rent their homes, that should not be imposed on others, particularly in a judgmental way. I believe we should support candidates for commissioners who will oppose regulations that restrict rentals to a particular time of year.

It’s the visitors to Rehoboth that give the town its vibrancy. The town’s charm is not just supported by the hotels with room service and amenities, but also by homeowners like us who welcome visitors into our homes to enjoy a small slice of the year as if it were theirs.

Let us not be a culture of scarcity, but welcome all who would enjoy our lovely and charming beach resort.
